ZUBLENA Charles

Charles Zublena (1910-1979) is a designer born in Italy. He first trained in cabinetmaking and sculpture. Upon his arrival in France around 1930, he studied evening classes at the Boulle school. Then, he opened his cabinetmaker's workshop and produced innovative pieces. Very quickly, the creator wanted to explore other mediums and chose to work on plastic material possibilities. In the early 1960s, he made his first plastic creations from his Relax armchair made of solid wood. In 1965, he made a long chair in the shape of a wave. With the furniture manufacturer Les Plastiques de Bourgogne, he produced a version of its fiberglass chair. Known as « Eurolax R1 », the chair, specially designed for Club Med, has then been present on every beaches. During his career, Charles Zublena participated in numerous fairs, more particularly at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. In 1972, he became a member of the steering committee of the SAD. Later, he returned to the profession of cabinetmaker and twice received the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France. He was made a Knight of the National Order of Merit in 1979.
