LAPORTE Jean-Pierre

Jean-Pierre Laporte (1944) is a French designer. He was born and raised in Bordeaux. In 1961, he met Pierre Paulin, designer for the Thonet France workshops where his father worked. The designer inspired him with a taste for furniture drawing. Jean-Pierre Laporte graduated from the Boulle School in 1963 and then from ENSAD (National School of Decorative Arts) in 1965. He worked on different projects with Marc Held and then with Pierre Guariche. In 1969, he opened his own design office in Paris. He created seats, such as the Girolle armchair, produced by Thonet the same year. From 1976, he created the company EBAD (Study Bâtir Agencer Décorer). For more than 30 years, he collaborated with interior design firms and designers such as Marc Alessandri, Michel Boyer, Michel Cadestin, etc. Jean-Pierre Laporte was a member of the SAD (Society of Decorative Artists) from 1965 to 2007 and member of the CAIM (Creators of Interior Architecture and Models) from 1971 to 1976. He won prizes during his career, such as the medal of the Society for the Encouragement of Art & Industry that he receives several times.
